A restaurant on my lifechanging meals list. We've been here before and had previously waited in the long line, so we lined up about 10 minutes before opening at 4:50pm on a Saturday and we were able to make it into the first round of seating. Would highly recommend coming 10-15 mins before opening! We ordered two of the Homura Aburasoba, the top 1 menu item, which comes with the works: spicy minced pork, green onions, bamboo, seaweed, fish powder, chives, and raw egg yolk. The presentation of the dish was beautiful as it arrived, and I loved mixing it up and making it my own dish as I got to add my preference of vinegar and chili oil into the bowl. So delicious and creamy and really just a flavor explosion in each bite. This was the restaurant that made me question if I actually prefer soupless ramen over ramen with soup. Yum. We also ordered the takoyaki, which was delightfully crispy and had really great flavor. Service was so fast - I saw people's appetizers coming out at 5:05pm, just five minutes after opening. This place is meant for a casual, quick, and efficient meal, so people are in and out usually within an hour (which is good for the long line). Highly recommend!
We arrived for dinner around 5:15PM on a weekday and there was no wait for our party of 4, but this quickly changed and there was a long line by ~6PM. And I can see why. Kajiken is easily now one of my favorite soupless ramen spots. They have a good variety of options, something for everyone. I got the tan tan aburasoba and was very pleased with the flavor of the sauce and pork. It wasn't very spicy but they have chili at the table that you can add. Others in my party got the homura and roast beef noodles, which they said were very tasty as well. The portion sizes are very reasonable for the price.
Well-worth the wait! This was my first time tryingbrothless ramen and I left as a fan. The dish is relatively simple but packed with flavor. Serving size is also quite large so make sure you're hungry beforehand! The interior is also super cute.
THIS place is fire, I literally came back 3 times within 2 weeks and I live a decent drive away. The food is so flavorful. I definitely recommend their popular ramens. With the classic one and their most popular one. Original 10/10 I would get this if I didn't want something to over bearing. Great noodle texture and cashu was great. Spicy minced pork 11/10 WITH THE RAW egg so much flavor. Same great noodles with more things. I also love the amount of green onions they give. For sides the takoyaki or those octopus was fire. It's soft on the inside with great flavor. I would pass on the chicken karage and beef rice bowl those were kinda just alright. The rice bowl is pretty good if you love near by and want something cheap for sure tho. LINES DO BE CRAZY LONG. The service is great tho and food usually comes out pretty fast. Place is always lively with an upscaled japanese vibe.
While on business I decided to come here with a friend as this place was highly recommended. LONG line out the door - but here's an important hint - it moves pretty quickly. They give you a menu when you get close and ask you to order when you sit down. Is it worth it? The food is very good. I ordered the curry flavour and added the stuff that came in the original - seaweed, bamboo shoots, green onions and chives. I first tasted it by itself with nothing added. The sauce with egg mixed in was really good. Great flavour, a bit creamy with the egg, light curry, not spicy, nice and rich. Really really nice. Noodles are slightly chewy and very well done. After mixing the ingredients I find they really supplement the base, which for the curry I found a bit empty. I would say this place is worth coming and checking out. Don't be deterred by the line. I just can't give it all 5 stars as I'm used to superb Japanese in Vancouver and the final bill just seems really $$ for me - probably 40% higher. For the exact same food. Plus they rush you out the door.
Service is top notch--process is so organized, I feel like I'm back in Japan. This is dry ramen (no broth) if that's a concern to you. Seasoning is on point. Decor is modern and clean. I look forward to coming ba
Waited about 15-20 mins for a table. We were seated promptly for table of 5. Which was basically table for 4 with added chair. The place is small so I don't think it's good for large parties. Esp since there are no reservations. You may be waiting longer. The food! I got the No. 1 and it was delicious! The noodles were perfectly el dents. Not soggy. My friend got No. 2 with the pork and would be perfect if you added bamboo shoots to the dish. I loved the garlic mill at the table. I need one! The karage and tokoyaki were good, too, but pretty standard fair. Service was great. Brought out water bottle refills quite often and checked in on us, but not intrusive.
WHEN: Sat @5:30pm PARKING: If there are no metered spots open, there is a parking structure just around the corner you can pay with your phone with. It's less than $2/hour (I don't remember what fees they have using the app). Even though there was a line, there is a staff member who would ask how many is in our party and give us a menu while we waited. It's actually not first come first serve, but if there was a counter seating that has 2 seats available, they will offer it to the first pair in line, which was us! So we only waited 10 minutes and was able to "skip" most of the line! Sure we faced the wall but we got to eat sooner than anticipated! The restaurant is quite lovely. Here's what we ordered: TAIKOYAKI - $8.50 Fried pancake-ball with octopus, takoyaki sauce, mayonnaise, seaweed, bonito flakes. So perfectly prepared where it's crisp on the outside and creamy inside with octopus pieces. To be honest I never cared for octopus but I just love everything else about takoyakis--the fried crispiness, the flavors between the sauce and mayo, and the dancing bonitos flakes on top. It's just so much fun to eat! HOMURA ABURASOBA - $16.95 Spicy minced pork, green onions, bamboo shoots, seaweed, fish powder, chives, and raw egg yolk (can sub ajitama or poached egg). I figure since it was my first time I would order the Top 1 item. I thought it was wonderful. Perhaps a tad bland considering all the spices and ingredients in this! But overall I enjoyed this. ORIGINAL ABURASOBA - $14.95 2x Chasu, Bamboo shots, Green onions, Seaweed. My partner got this since it was labeled as "Recommend for First Time" and I honestly enjoyed this more, but just by a bit. Both bowls were really good! I really enjoyed it here, so much I came back with my dad, sis and 2 of her kids just a couple of days later. We arrived around 1pm and since we didn't see a line, we decided to park first rather than I jump out and get in line first while the rest parked. I was wrong. Because our party was 5 people, there was a 20 min wait for us to be seated. It was warm out so everyone waited next door at a boba shop. Sis was going to order something but as it turns out, Kajiken does not allow outside food in. We told them we'd come back. We ordered some of the same items as last time. Sadly the ORIGINAL ABURASOBA was too spicy for the kids even though it wasn't labeled as so. No idea. Here's are other items we ordered besides the same 3 items as the previous visit: MENTAIKO RICE - $7 Mentaiko Spicy Cod Roe, green onions, seaweed. Just as expected and for a decent price! ROAST BEEF RICE - $10 Diced Roast Beef, chaliapin sauce, yogurt sauce, green onions, black pepper. sesame seeds, and 'raw egg yolk. Looks absolutely NOTHING like photo. The meat isn't red which is why we ordered it. Oh well, it was still decent and very easy to eat. I love the tiny containers for our leftovers we are able to keep them in. The back wall exhibits local artists so it's like a mini gallery, as you head towards the bathroom. I'm so glad I finally got to eat here and also bring my family to enjoy with me.
